My name is Ben. I’m a 31 year old techie, nerd, friend, and artist, who lives in Cleveland. I’ve been doing art related things since I was a kid. And thats what brought me to this venture.
When you’re a kid, you always want the coolest toys. You see that shiny new action figure on the shelf or in the back of a comic and the want for that toy hits you like a ton of bricks. Its like everything you do from that moment on revolves around getting that toy. The problem, especially when you’re a kid, is money. Mom and Dad bought me stuff, but you always want more when you’re younger. I was no exception to this. One of the highest wish list items were LEGO’s. I’m pretty sure I ended by teens with buckets full of Legos. Along with the kids at school, we all collected and built “bases” out of LEGO’s for our own personalized minifigures to visit. But for me, I needed more. I always aspired to make things, and my artistic and ADHD driven mind came up with an idea. In 6th grade, with a single pipecleaner, I crafted the very first figure.
It wasn’t much. Standing at an inch tall, wielding a LEGO bow and arrow and riding a LEGO polar bear, I had no idea what that single black pipecleaner would do for my future. Several hundred figures and many years later, I have a website, I have a brand, and I’ve extended my reach into other outlets.
I guess someone would say that I’m good with my hands. From pipecleaners I moved onto sewing. My grandmother always tried to show me how to sew, and could see my genuine interest in it. But when I was young, I was always told sewing was a feminine past-time. Once I hit my late 20’s I realize that I didn’t care about titles and labels for things that obviously weren’t just “for girls”. I started sewing and I sucked at it, badly. But I taught myself how to sew and eventually, we got to the point where I might not be the best, but I’m proud of the heads they turn.
What is all this? You may ask. This website is a collection of what I do, brought together in one neat little package.
As with everything I’ve done, I have huge plans for the site. I want to make this a place for art, for not just my creations, but yours as well. Who knows? You may see some new things pop up within the next few weeks you might have not expected. But just know that if you’re here, I appreciate you taking the time to look at my craft.
What does the road ahead bring? I have no idea. Futures are crazy, we never know what strange thing might roll up with the tide or what new idea comes into someone’s head. Some really fun things lie ahead and I’d love to show you. Stick around, pull up a chair, watch me do art things. You never know when an overactive imagination could be contagious.
